Fairs and Festivals in Rajasthan

Rajasthan is a city of colors which is reflected from its exquisite handicrafts, architecture, and art and culture of the people of Rajasthan.

Rajasthan's true colors can be seen in the Fairs and Festivals of Rajasthan. Rich in tradition and often inspired by religion, the Rajasthani Festivals are a part of their rich culture. The different fairs and festivals are attended from world over by different tourists.

A few of the major fairs and festivals in Rajasthan are listed below :

  Pushkar Fair, Pushkar :
  If you wish to be a part of the colors of Rajasthan, then you must visit this small little hamlet of Pushkar during the Pushkar Fair. Held annually in the month of November, Pushkar Fair is not only world's largest camel fair but it has more shades to it. The vibrancy of the carnival makes it a must watch event.
  Trading of cattle is although one of the big events but if you really want to bring home some of the exquisite Rajasthan handicrafts, brassware, garments and jewellery, then this is the place to be. Apart from this, the soulful Rajasthani folk songs and dances which are a part of the carnival touch the heart of millions of visitors.
  Camel Festival, Bikaner :
  Truly the camels are the ship of the desert and the carnival related to these animals is quite a big event, as they are the only ways of transportation in this rugged and barren desert lands. The Camel Festival held every year in the month of January is a tribute for these hard working animals. It is more like a beauty contest where camels participate and are judged as the best camel, camel with the best haircut, camels which can dance well and so on. The animals with their colorful saddles, ornamented necks dance to the tunes .Apart from this one can also be a part of the folk songs and dances.
Desert Festival, Jaisalmer :
The city of Jaisalmer lights up with the colors of Desert Festival held every year between January to February. Folk songs, dances, handicrafts of Rajasthan, all are a part of this carnival. So it is a must watch event if you really wish to taste the flavors of Rajasthan.
Elephant Festival Jaipur :
Well apart from the camels, the royal mode of transportation in Rajasthan was the elephants. This festival held in March is a festival of the elephants .Elephant polo matches, elephant races and lastly elephants playing with colors is a must watch event.
  International Kite Festival Jaipur :
  If you wish to see the blue sky filled with a splash of colors, then come Jaipur in the month of January. Held annually on 14 th January, the International Kite Festival covers the blue desert sky with, red, blue, green, yellow, ochre colored kites each trying to beat the other with their own beauty.
